Ballinlough Gun Club
Ballinlough gun club dates from the 1950s, being founded by the late Paddy and Gerry Waldron ,brothers from the town who had a deep interest in nature and fieldsports.Over the years it has been to the fore in propagating the indigenous game species , rearing and releasing non native gamebirds such as pheasant,providing an adequate habitat so that stocks that flourish and thrive ,and in controlling vermin and pest species to a manageable level. All members are fully insured for sporting activities,and the club is affiliated to the umbrella body ,the National Association of Regional Game councils,which represents the 30,000 gun club members countrywide. The club has a trained safety officer ,and engages in clay pigeon shooting competitions for its members.
The philosophy of the club could be described as endeavouring to leave the wildlife and habitat in a better shape for future generations to enjoy.
